A touch of Finland in Ao Nang Beach, Krabi Thailand

Found this Finnish flag and writing on a graffitid phone booth

While I only caught two groups of American accents while we were in Thailand, there was a definite trace of Suomi in Ao Nang!

I hinted at it in my post before. But seriously the hotel we stayed at clearly had tons of Finnish book donations. A few more Nordic or Scandinavian as well but it was overwhelmingly Suomen.

Puhutko Suomea?

We couldn't figure out where this was because it was a bit of a small lane that was around 3 feet wide and went to no where.

A Thai massage for Finlanders. A thai massage is basically you laying down and someone forcing your body to do yoga.

When you travel is there anything you watch for?

  1. Sounds like it is a fun trip. I have friends that went to another country and when they went out to eat they heard familiar voices. Turned out some of their co-workers were visiting the exact same place – small world.

  2. I would love to travel outside of the US. I think it would be a lot of fun and such a great experience. We’re planning on going on our first out of country trip next year to El Salvador to visit family for our honeymoon.

  3. I had never heard of a Thai massage. That’s really cool. I don’t look out for anything specific when we travel, except funny billboards and signs.

  4. I don’t get to do a lot of traveling. Because I live in Montreal, when I do travel I tend to listen/look for people that might speak French. I’m perfectly bilingual but it’s fun to hear people speak French when they are in another country where French is not spoken.

  5. I think it would be so fun to run into fellow Americans when traveling abroad! Thailand has always seemed like such a beautiful and exotic place to me. I would love to visit there some day!

  6. I love running into people from my neck of the woods in other places. I moved 5 hours north for an internship & found someone from my hometown. Crazy 😛

  7. I bet you can get a lot of great massages when you are in Thailand. That would be so nice. Hope you had a great trip and relaxing vacation.
