Cricut is a crafter’s Must Have item. It is also perfect for teachers, parents and project directors!

Cricut’s Explore One™ and Explore Air™ machines are so incredible – and a must-have for any crafter.

But what bridges the gap between the creative ideas in your head and the Cricut machine is the Cricut Design Space™.

Cricut’s Design Space™ is software for PC, Mac®, iPhone® and iPad® that you get for free with your Cricut machine of choice.

Instead of trying to figure out how to make your project, Design Space gives you the ability to focus on what you want to make. Your Cricut machine takes it from there and brings it to life.

Introducing Cricut Design Space!

With Design Space, you can start designing from scratch on your computer, iPhone® or iPad®, or you can use a pre-designed, Make It Now™ project. These ready-to-make projects are created by professional artists and include everything from home décor to fashion to paper crafting, and even a variety of FREE projects.

If you want to use one of Cricut’s 50K+ images, you can try them out in the Design Space to see which will look best in your project before you commit to purchasing it.

Uploading Images on Cricut Design Space

When you’re ready to start designing, you can either use one of Cricut’s 50K+ images or easily upload your own using the “Upload Images” tool in Design Space. You can upload and cut .svg, .jpg, .png, .bmp, .gif, and .dxf files absolutely FREE. You can even use fonts already installed on your computer.

Cut What You Want® tool

The Design Space’s Cut What You Want® tool makes it easy to convert your design into a cuttable image in just a few clicks!

The Cricut Design Space™ app for iPad® and iPhone®

Cricut’s easy-to-use app for the iPad® and iPhone® makes it possible for you can design anytime and anywhere inspiration strikes you.

Beta is coming soon and they really are close to having this ready for Android full integration. RIght now you can do a LOT still on your andoid!

It also allows you to access all the project’s that you’ve personally designed, whether on your iOs device or your PC or Mac, and gives you access to all the Make-it-Now projects.

With this app, you can start a project while at the beach, enhance it at the ice-cream shop, add some embellishments while cozying up on your couch, and then cut it on the Cricut Explore in your craft room. Plus, it’s cloud-based, so your projects are always synced across all your devices.

P.S. Cricut is working on an Android™ app right now, so don’t feel left out if you don’t have an iPad or iPhone.

In a nutshell, Cricut Design Space™ gives you the creative freedom to design just about anything! Make party invitations, decorations, and favors. Create seasonal home décor or personalize wedding gifts. Add embellishments to your favorite photo memories.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! That’s why next week’s post (the last on in this series) will focus on some really fun and interesting projects that people have created using their Cricut machine and the Cricut Design Space.

Stay tuned!

  1. Thanks for this info, very helpful as I am looking into buying a Cricut explore air. I am a bit confused though as your post title says now compatible with android but further on you say Cricut are still working on it – is it available?

      1. I bought Cricut Express Care hoping it would connect with my Android system which is a Samsung tablet and I cannot get the Cricut app to download can anyone help me with this thank you

      2. You can not do much it is shhhhhitttty compare to Windows and Apple still waiting for the app that keep saying will out.

  2. As of now I see nothing on a Android app yes I watched the link and is says excited but no app yet. If it has been running for 5 weeks what is the app?

  3. They have not yet released the android app, but there has been an update stating that they are getting down to the wire and it will be coming out soon. Still no exact date yet, but I for one can’t wait. Not sure if flash playing will be needed, but I’m thinking it, so you will need to get the archived version since Adobe Flash Player is no longer supported for android. Here are a couple of links on how to download and install it. Hope this helps.

    1. The Cricut Mini® machine works in conjunction with the free Cricut Craft Room® design software. The Cricut Craft Room® design software is compatible with Windows® or Mac® computers and allows you to design with and cut all of the Cricut® images you own. You can also use the Cricut Craft Room® design software to explore the entire Cricut® image library (including exclusive digital images) and purchase digital images for immediate use.

  5. I contacted the company a couple weeks ago and they just said they were working on android and sometime in the future it would be available, the lady said it takes forever because you have to deal with so many companies when it comes to android vs working with one company when you do apple

    1. Android has so many different “brands” that it does take a while. Whereas Apple has just their few versions, so yes it takes a while as it has to “fit” for so many android phones!

  6. Wish you could have the choice of the old version with the cartridges or the explore ones, I don’t like apple products don’t like to have to have a computer especially when at crops. Too expensive with apple products and need internet, not good for when camping. I have android cause less expensive. Finding explore air confusing.

  7. I’ve heard really great things about the new Cricket and the design space option. I love that you can upload your own images. It really makes your projects only limited by your own imagination. I’ve been trying to decide between the Silhouette Cameo or the Cricket Air so this is great info to have. I really like that the Cricket Air doesn’t have to be hooked up to a computer to work which is a huge advantage in my eyes and has me leaning in their direction.

  8. I still have an old Cricut with no networking capability or whatever you call it. LOL Mine just uses the cartridges. I need to use it more before I can justify investing in a new one!

  9. Any idea in how much longer for the release of the Android version of design space? I got an explore air for mothers day and I am chomping at the bits tof use it….but.I don’t have iPad or iPhone, only android. I know I can use it with a.computer as well, but I like the idea of being able to design on the go.

    1. Hi Jennifer, I know that there are limited function for the Android app, it isn’t full=fledged yet. The company indicates that since Android is a platform and not a phone, and each phone will have different specifications, making the app is taking a lot longer than for iphone, which basically just has a few versions out at once. I’ll keep you updated though!

  10. I just bought a cricut air but have an android tablet. I see the last post about the android app was July. Any new news on when it’s coming?
