Mumbai may not be the garden City like Bangalore, but it is a major metropolis. For those with kids, there are some drawbacks at times. With such a large population, easy access to safe areas to play can be few and far between.
Where do kids play in Mumbai?
As we mentioned, some parents find school for their toddlers to be a way for kids to have access to a safe place to learn, do crafts and creative activities and also play.
However, outside school, unless you’re in a posh area or your housing society has a garden (play ground) chances are kids play in the corridors and hallways or the parking areas near the home. For this reason, fun places for kids are a way that the upper middle class and above keep their kids entertained.
Soft play areas, creative fun, and climbing!
Kids need to get their energy out. There needs to be places for kids in Mumbai. Fun Zone at Viviana mall has been our saving grace, especially during the long-monsoon and even longer “summer” months when it is difficult to play outside.
Here’s a list of Mumbai play areas.

Review of Funky Monkeys is a great indoor, soft play area for young kids. Both their locations are spacious and well maintained. Although they allow babies from 6 months and kids up till 10 (?) I find the equipment is best suited for kids 2 – 6 years. The play are is divided into 2 “zones”, approximately 6 months – 2 years and 3 – 10 years.
The toddler zone is well equiped with lots of fun things for babies who are just learning to walk as well as those who are more confident on their feet. It has many games, a soft carousel, a ball pit and a small obstacle course. Parents are expected to be in this area with their kids at all times. The child minders do not help at all and they also do not make sure that older kids stay out of this area, so occasionally you’ll have much bigger kids playing very roughly between the toddlers.
The kids zone has some really fun activities and is well designed. My son thoroughly enjoys playing on this side. He is 2 years old. They allow younger kids who are walking confidently to play in the big kids zone as long as their parents are with them. The area is equip with 4 very big slides, air guns that shoot balls, various obstacles to climb under and over, a trampoline, big ball pit and many other fund climbing activities.
Funky Monkeys is definitely worth a visit in my opinion. Be prepared to get in on the action though, as the staff do not really watch the kids very closely. They have a small café in FM’s too. The food is pretty sad and I would compare it to a cheap food stall rather than a café. So if you looking for good food, rather plan to have lunch at Café Zoes (Lower Parel) or Hard rock Café (Andheri W) which are located directly outside the respective FM’s and serve great food.
Best for ages: 2 – 6
A special thanks to my friend Misha for helping me with this list!
