Things to do with Kids in Mumbai: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya Prince of Wales Museum

Pinterest

Formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya is located in South Mumbai and is a large museum surrounded by beautiful (don’t step on them!) grounds.

What you will find at CSMVS

The museum has an expansive selection of Art, Archaeology and Natural History pieces. For my 6 and 4 year old kids they enjoyed the natural history the most. Second best was the weapons (okay maybe that was mostly exciting for my 4 year old son). This was a good age for my kids to visit the place.  Great for educational purposes as well as seeing archeology (which didn’t so much interest the kids).

Is it a poisonous snake?
An entire wall shows differences between snakes.

Issues we faced

Supposedly there is a children’s area but it was closed for a special group. This obviously doesn’t go over well for kids. Instead we paid 10 rupees for two old fashioned style coins to be made.

Special exhibits

They currently are showing art from local art colleges. In addition we paid extra to see a short film of Bombay to Mumbai.

They have two small eateries and a gift shop. Food is reasonably priced.

  1. Since I don’t have children-nor will I be going there-I shared this. I do agree that no matter where you live in this world a museum is always a great place to take a child.

  2. Although I don’t have children I still think this is something I can enjoy with family and friends if I were living there! The environment looks lovely! :)

  3. I always find it so interesting what museums have to offer. I don’t recall any in my area that have bisected animals, but my kids want to bet vets someday, so that would really fascinate them!
