Formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya is located in South Mumbai and is a large museum surrounded by beautiful (don’t step on them!) grounds.
What you will find at CSMVS
The museum has an expansive selection of Art, Archaeology and Natural History pieces. For my 6 and 4 year old kids they enjoyed the natural history the most. Second best was the weapons (okay maybe that was mostly exciting for my 4 year old son). This was a good age for my kids to visit the place. Great for educational purposes as well as seeing archeology (which didn’t so much interest the kids).
Getting to the Prince of Wales Museum
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya is located close to the Gateway of India and near other museums and Kala Gora. It is a 15 minute walk from.CST and the roads and sidewalks are mostly in tact and safe.

Issues we faced
Supposedly there is a children’s area but it was closed for a special group. This obviously doesn’t go over well for kids. Instead we paid 10 rupees for two old fashioned style coins to be made.
They currently are showing art from local art colleges. In addition we paid extra to see a short film of Bombay to Mumbai.
They have two small eateries and a gift shop. Food is reasonably priced.
