Update – Drying Cleaning a wedding dress after 6 years

A few weeks back I dropped my wedding dress off at the dry cleaner near my place. I have been married for almost 7 years. We had a blessing ceremony back in Michigan so my family and friends could celebrate (and so I could have a proper reception).

Anyway, it took a while and since I am a bit cheap, I didn’t want to spend $100 or more on dry cleaning I dress I’ll never wear again. So when we moved to India I figured I could have it done cheaper. Yep – it was much cheaper (around $4). Well of course you want to know… can you get coffee or white russian stains out of you wedding dress even after it has set (for over 6 years?).

My wedding dress – off to the cleaners – we shall see if 6+ years is too late for dry cleaning a wedding dress

Here’s the proof.

After 6 years my wedding dress is clean.

Apparently it is never too late to dry clean your wedding dress.

Okay maybe if it has yellowed.

Amazing right? So to all you wondering if it is too late? It probably isn’t. If you can afford to have it done, why not? I mean my daughter likely won’t fit it ever, but maybe some day I’ll fit back into it and I can have anniversary photos taken in it? After all we didn’t have professional photos taken at our wedding (again, cheap).

Time to Scrapbook my wedding

Oh, by the way, if you’re reading this and happen to have any photos of my wedding, send them on over :) HAHA.

No serious. I’d love more photos of the wedding. I don’t have any of the kiss, etc. We have some photos but more would be lovely to add to the scrap book I’m starting. Hey! Since then I was laid off twice, had two kids, and have been busy. Excuses or reasons? I don’t care. it is time to start the wedding scrapbook, right?

Did you do a wedding scrap book?

What did you do with your wedding dress?

  1. Interesting… I didn’t clean mine either after reading those wedding dress cleaners that box them is a scam.. I donated mine to brides for breast cancer or something like that.

  2. Well first of all I don’t have a wedding dress and secondly am not married yet and last but not the least am not a girl.haha…anyway jokes apart it’s nice to read your post, something different than the other regular blog I must say.

  3. So happy you had good results. I had my daughters preserved so my granddaughter can wear. Happy that the stains came out after all these years.

  4. I dry cleaned mine and am keeping it in a garment bag for now. My mom has hers on display on a beautiful mannequin, and I would like to do something similar once my husband and I get into a bigger place. :)

  5. This is fantastic to know! I have a wedding dress that is 11 yrs old. It doesn’t have stains in it, but I wondered if it’s too late to get it dry cleaned and still look almost new!

  6. I just sold mine at my parent’s estate sale. It hung for 35 years in their closet. I only had boys and really did not want to bring it back with me (over 2,000 miles). I good with selling it. Great memories and pictures and that is all I need.

  7. I still have my wedding dress in the bag in my closet. Not sure if I will ever take it to get dry cleaned. Might end up giving it to my daughter and if she doesn’t want it then maybe I’ll get rid of it somehow. :)

  8. I never had my wedding dress dry cleaned or preserved. I just haven’t felt like I could invest the expense into that. We just celebrated our 5 year anniversary so perhaps now would be a good time for me to take care of it.

  9. Wow what great results! I never did anything to mine. In fact, my parents took it back to their house for me after the wedding and it’s still there! I just don’t know where to put it! I need to probably have it preserved. But I don’t want to spend the money.

  10. I took great care with my wedding dress…had it cleaned right after our honeymoon. Now I have boys and don’t know what I’ll do with it!

  11. Glad to hear the dress turned out beautifully!
I sold mine after we were married for 5 years – I was never going to wear it again, but found the most grateful bride-to-be who bought it.

  12. Ha! I found this post after googling if one year was too long to wait to get my wedding dress dry cleaned. I just haven’t got round to it and now that I’m a few weeks away from having a baby, I was too embarrassed for the cleaners to know how slack I am! Thanks for your post, it’s good to know I can leave it a bit longer.
